With the unprecedented events of 2020. many organizations were forced to re-evaluate programming, thus Big Blue & You has pivoted the way we engage youth!
Big Blue Crew on the rise
We are proud to boast our new program called Big Blue Crew! Being a part of the crew gives you the opportunity to become an ocean-loving activist. Our crew has deep rewards and light asks. When you join the crew, you automatically have access to ocean content, ocean-friendly swag, and volunteer opportunities.
We’re teaming up with Shores Forward
We are excited to announce that our Big Blue Crew will be a part of the Shores Forward partnership Summer 2021. This is a huge opportunity to make big changes for the City of Miami Beach. Our crew members will survey establishments such as restaurants and vendors to become more ocean friendly.
More specifically, they will inform decision makers of these businesses to swap to more sustainable products, such as compostable straws, cutlery, and to-go packaging. When businesses make the switch they automatically join the City of Miami Beach’s #PlasticFreeMB initiative. The city is pushing to become a plastic-free city. Currently, there are already over 120 businesses thus far that are part of the program. We are hoping our crew can double that number this summer!

Be sure to check out our Big Blue Crew page here! We have had a team of amazing crew members like Chante who is just only 16 years old and is doing wonderful things in her community. She was a One Oysean Campaign Leader and assembled a core team of high school students to help organize a campaign and planted marsh to prevent coastal erosion in her community. We also have another passionate crew member all the way from Costa Rica named Christina Lacayo. Christina is passionate about creating awareness for our oceans by educating her community about shark finning, overfishing and plastic pollution.

We are looking for ocean loving individuals who are passionate about making a difference in their communities. The crew has multiple opportunities throughout the year to volunteer, get involved, and learn more about ocean conservation issues.
